Poem’s Title: We Real Cool
- The structure of the poem is two lines of rhyming then a new paragraph.
- The key words/patterns are rhyming. The first paragraph rhymes with cool, the second is late, the third is sin, and the last is June.
- Vocab- 1. Lurk- to stay hidden as if waiting for something
2. Gin- alcohol
- What is going on in the poem is that pool players are being described. What they have done and what they do.
- The literary speaker (the person speaking in the poem) is one of the pool players.
- The dominant images made (decription, 5 senses) are they taste the gin.
- The poet’s attitude toward the subject is that pool players aren’t good people and they are going to die from fooling around too much.
- The authors diction (use of big words) and employment of poetic devices conveys that this was a very easy poem to write and that anybody can understand it.
